Bof. After working for two months on two different pieces of assemblage, I finally came to the conclusion that they are crap. In the wrong sense of the term, they are not like Manzoni's Merda d'artista. They are literally crap.
Now the question is: why are they crap? Their structure was original, they had meaning (at least I thought so), I paid attention to every detail... and they look crap.
Then I realized: they lacked imagination, they lacked technique. Even a kindergarten kid could do better. They lacked beauty and grace. They lacked skills. They lacked balance of composition.
So I'm going to face another one of my destructive tidal waves.
Anyway, the effort has not been entirely useless. I will preserve the structure. I will preserve the materials. I'll even preserve some intuitions. But I'll change the composition and the technique, relying on something that I know better.
I once asked to a fairly successful painter in my surroundings what is the difference between a good and a bad work of art. And he replied: "In the good work of art the eyes of the observer wander across the picture". It is true. But what if they wander across crap?
